General eligibility criteria (applicable to most posts)

  • Nationality: Must be a citizen of India. Preference might be given to Odisha residents, particularly for positions like Constable.
  • Character: Good moral character is expected.
  • Health: Sound health and physique, free from organic defects and body infirmity.
  • Marital Status: Generally, applicants should not have more than one spouse living, according to Odisha Police. Criminal Record: Not have been convicted for any criminal offense.
  • Odia Language Proficiency: Ability to speak, read, and write Odia is typically required. 

Post Specific Eligibility:
A. Sub-Inspector (SI)

  • Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
  • Age Limit: Generally between 21 and 28 years (subject to revision and relaxation). A 3-year age relaxation was provided for all categories in the 2025 recruitment, resulting in an upper age limit of 33 years for SEBC, SC, ST, and Women candidates.
  • Physical Standards: Specific height, weight, and chest measurements (for men) as per category, to be met in the Physical Standard Test (PST).
    • Men (General & SEBC): 168 cm height, 55 kg weight, 79-84 cm chest.
    • Women (General & SEBC): 155 cm height, 47.5 kg weight.
    • Men (SC/ST): 163 cm height, 50 kg weight, 76-81 cm chest.
    • Women (SC/ST): 150 cm height, 45 kg weight.
  • Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Running (e.g., 1.6 km in 8 minutes for men, 10 minutes for women), long jump (e.g., 3.66 meters for men, 2.77 meters for women, 3 attempts), cross-country running (5 km), ladder climbing, and swimming may be included. 
    B. Constable/Sepoy
  • Educational Qualification: Passed 10+2 (or equivalent) from a recognized board, with proficiency in reading and writing Odia.
  • Age Limit: Generally between 18 and 23 years (subject to revisions and relaxation).
  • Physical Standards: Specific height, weight, and chest measurements (for men) are required.
    • Men (General & SEBC): 168 cm height, 55 kg weight, chest 79-84 cm.
    • Women (General & SEBC): 158 cm height, 47.5 kg weight.
    • Men (SC/ST): 163 cm height, 50 kg weight, chest 76-81 cm.
    • Women (SC/ST): 153 cm height, 45 kg weight.
  • Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Running (e.g., 1.6 km in 6 minutes for men, 8 minutes for women), broad jump, high jump, etc.
  • Local Employment Exchange Registration: May be required. 
    C. Traffic Police Constable
  • Educational Qualification: Passed 10+2 (or equivalent) with Odia language proficiency.
  • Age Limit: Minimum 21 years old as of Jan 1, 2024, with a maximum age limit of 25 years for the general category and 30 years for SC/ST/SEBC/women candidates. Note the disparity in information regarding age limit upto some stating the maximum age as 38. Please refer to websites.
  • Physical Standards: Specific height and weight requirements: 168 cm height and 55 kg weight for men; 158 cm height and 47.5 kg weight for women.
    D. Fire Station Officer
  • Educational Qualification: Science or Engineering Graduate from a recognized university or institute.
  • Age Limit: Between 21 and 25 years.
  • Gender: Only males can apply.
  • Physical Standards and PET: Similar requirements to other police posts, including PST measurements and events like running, long jump, cross country, ladder climbing, and swimming. 
    E. Fireman
  • Educational Qualification: Passed 10+2 from a recognized board.
  • Age Limit: Between 19 and 25 years.
  • Physical Standards: Specific height, weight, and chest measurements (for men only) as per category.
    • UR/SEBC (Men): 168 cm height, 55 kg weight, 79-84 cm chest.
    • SC/ST (Men): 163 cm height, 50 kg weight, 76-81 cm chest.
  • Physical Ability Test (PAT): Tasks like running, weight lifting, and other exercises are part of the assessment. 
    F. Fireman Driver
  • Educational Qualification: 10+2 education and a heavy driving license.
  • Age Limit: Between 19 and 25 years.
  • Physical Standards and PAT: Same as Fireman. 
    G. Forest Guard
  • Educational Qualification: Passed the High School Certificate Examination (10+) from a recognized board or institution.
  • Age Limit: Between 18 and 38 years as of January 1, 2025, with relaxation for reserved categories.
  • Physical Standards (PSM): Measurement of height and chest (for male candidates).
    • Male (UR/SEBC/SC): 168 cm height, 81-86 cm chest.
    • Male (ST): 158 cm height, 81-86 cm chest.
    • Female (UR/SEBC/SC/ST): 153 cm height.
  • Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Walking (25 km in 4 hours for males, 16 km in 4 hours for females). 
    H. Gurkha Sepoy (OSAP)
  • Educational Qualification: Class 7th pass or equivalent, with preference given to those who passed H.S.C. or equivalent.
  • Age Limit: Between 18 and 25 years.
    Salary and Other Allowances:
  • 1. Constable/Sepoy
  • Pay Scale: ₹21,700 – ₹69,100.
  • Annual Package: Approximately ₹3.5 – ₹4.5 lakhs.
  • Allowances: Dearness Allowance (DA) (currently at 38% of Basic Pay), House Rent Allowance (HRA) (varying based on city category), Travel Allowance (TA), Uniform Allowance, Medical Allowance, and potentially others as per government rules.
    2.Sub-Inspector (SI)
  • Pay Band: ₹9,300 – ₹34,800.
  • Annual Package: Estimated to be around ₹5 – ₹6 lakhs.
  • Allowances: DA, HRA Basic Pay depending on the city, TA, Medical Benefits, Uniform Allowance, Risk Allowance, etc. 
    3. Traffic Police Constable
  • Pay Scale: ₹21,700 – ₹69,100.
  • Annual Salary: Expected to be between ₹3.1 lakh and ₹3.3 lakh.
  • Allowances: DA , HRA, TA, Medical Allowance, Newspaper Allowance, Special Pay, and other allowances. 
    4. Fire Station Officer
  • Pay Scale: ₹9,300 – ₹34,800.
  • Gross Salary: Approximately ₹50,000 – ₹60,000.
  • Allowances: TA, DA, HRA, and other benefits as applicable. 
    5. Fireman
  • Monthly Salary: ₹21853- ₹ 63200
  • Allowances: Included as per state regulations. 
    6. Forest Guard
  • Basic Pay: Starting at ₹19,900 per month.
  • Maximum Basic Pay: Up to ₹63,200 per month based on increments and years of service.
  • Salary During Probation: Approximately ₹8,880 per month (contractual/initial training).
  • Post-Probation Salary: Expected to be between ₹22,000 and ₹33,700+ per month, including allowances like DA (53% of Basic Pay), HRA, TA, medical benefits, and risk allowances.
  • Annual Package (Probation): ₹96,000 – ₹2,00,000. 
    7. Gurkha Sepoy (OSAP)
  • Basic Pay: Approximately ₹20,000 to ₹25,000 per month.
  • Allowances: DA, HRA, medical facilities, pension schemes, and other perks as per state government rules.
  • Note: In the context of the Odisha Special Striking Force (OSSF), Gurkha Sepoys/Constables may have a revised monthly salary of ₹45,000 as of 2025,
