General Eligibility Criteria for BSF:

  • Nationality:
    Must be a citizen of India. 
  • Age:
    Age limits range from 18 to 25 years, with relaxations for certain categories like SC/ST, OBC, and ex-servicemen. 
  • Educational Qualification:
    Minimum of 10th pass, 12th pass, or specific diploma/degree qualifications. 
  • Physical Standards:
    Physical measurements like height, weight, and chest (for males) are prescribed, with relaxations for certain categories. 
  • Medical Standards:
    Candidates must meet specific medical standards, including eyesight requirements. 

Specific Post Examples:

  • BSF Constable (General Duty): 10th pass, age 18-23 (with relaxations), height requirements (170 cm for males, 157 cm for females, with relaxations for ST candidates). 
  • BSF Sub Inspector (SI): Bachelors Degree, 3-year diploma in the relevant field, age limit typically up to 30 years, with some exceptions. 
  • BSF Constable (Tradesman): 10th pass + ITI for some trades, age 18-25 (with relaxations). 
  • BSF Assistant Commandant: Age between 20-25 years (with relaxations). 

General PET Components (May vary for specific post):

  • Running:
    • Males: 1.6 km race in 6 minutes and 30 seconds 
    • Females: 800 meters race in 4 minutes and 45 seconds 
  • Long Jump:
    • Males: 11 feet (3.35 meters) 
    • Females: 9 feet (2.75 meters)
  • High Jump:
    • Males: 3.5 feet (1.06 meters) 
    • Females: 3 feet (0.91 meters) 

Others:

  • Number of Attempts: Generally there is no limit to the number of attempts for the BSF exams. 
  • Application Process: Applications are typically submitted online. 
  • Selection Process: Involves written exams, physical tests, documentation, and medical examinations. 

Salary & Benefits:
Officers:

  • Assistant Commandant:  ₹56,100, with a pay scale up to ₹1,77,500.
  • Deputy Commandant: ₹67,700, with a pay scale up to ₹2,08,700.
  • Second-in-Commandant: ₹78,800, with a pay scale up to ₹2,09,200.
  • Commandant: ₹1,18,500, with a pay scale up to ₹2,14,100. 
    Subordinate Ranks:
  • Sub-Inspector: ₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400
  • Head Constable: ₹25,500 – ₹81,100
  • Constable: ₹21,700 – ₹69,100

Allowances and Other Benefits:
BSF personnel are entitled to various allowances except his salary:

    Other Benefits:
  • Uniform Allowance: Financial assistance for maintaining uniforms.

  • NPS: A contributory pension scheme for government employees.
